League and Division Format

Gresham Little League consists of two different leagues: American League and National League.

In general, each league is based on which Elementary or Middle school your child is/would attend; however, it is the parents responsibility to ensure their child is within the proper league boundries.

American League includes:

  • Powell Valley
  • East Orient (Multnomah County residents)
  • Hall
  • Highland
  • Kelly Creek
  • Gordon Russell
  • West Orient (Multnomah County residents)

National League includes:

  • Hollydale
  • West Gresham
  • East Gresham
  • North Gresham
  • Hogan Cedars
  • Dexter McCarty
  • Clear Creek

The American and National Leagues each consist of the following divisions:

  • Major League
  • Minor League
  • Farm League
  • Rookie
  • T-Ball
  • Softball
  • Juniors/Seniors/Big League

Challengers: players, age 5 to 18 with physical or mental disabilities.

Major League: typically comprised of 11-12 year olds with above average baseball skills.  Games are played on the lower field at Main City Park.

Minor League: this level is comprised of 9 and 10 year olds, and 11 year olds not selected to a Major League team. All 9 year olds may play at this level, but are subject to being drafted and space availability. Any 8, 9, or 10 year old not drafted to Minors will be placed on a Farm team. Games are played on the upper field at Main City Park.

Farm League: this level is comprised mostly of 7 and 8 year olds and 9 and 10 year olds not drafted to a Minors team. Note: Players begin their Gresham Little League pitching careers at this level. Games are played at North Gresham Elementary School.

Rookie: this level is comprised of mostly 7 year olds. Players who are 6 years old may play Rookies, but must have 1 year of T-ball experience. Emphasis is directed toward developing fundamental baseball skills. There is no end-of-season double-elimination tournament at this level.  Games are played at East Gresham Elementary School.

T-Ball: comprised of 5 and 6 year olds. While 7 year olds are permitted to play at this level, such participation is generally discouraged and will only be allowed upon request and approval.  Games are played at East Gresham Elementary School.

Softball: We offer softball from farms to seniors covering girls from 7-18.  Home fields are located at North Gresham Elementary School.

Upper Division Baseball: We offer baseball for ages 13-18 where players will compete on 90' diamonds with their own age bracket.  This is a district schedule with some travel.  Home fields are located at West Gresham Elementary School and Gresham High School.

The Majors and Minors Spring playing seasons end with a double-elimination tournament that results in a "League Champion" for each level. Farms end with a single elimination tournament and Rookie and T-ball do not have a season-ending tournament.

Team Seletion Process

Each Division uses the following selection process for placing players on teams.

Major and Minor:  Team assignments are made via a draft after an evalulation.  All properly registered players participating in evaluations are placed on a team; however, not all 9 year old players will be drafted to a minors team and not all 11 year old players will be drafted to a majors team.  Note:  12 year olds must play in the Major League unless specific consent is allowed by the Distric 2 Administrator.

Rookie and Farm:  Teams are assigned by either the Division Directors and Player Representative for the Division. Player assignments are made with emphasis on age and the manager/coach player assessments from the previous year.  Player assessments are used primarily to balance the skill level of all teams. Players are notified of their team a few weeks prior to Opening Day.

T-Ball:  Teams are assigned by the T-Ball Division Coordinator, with emphasis on local neighborhoods and age. Players are notified of their team a few weeks prior to Opening Day.
