A Message from Gresham Little League's Umpire-in-Chief

Greetings and welcome to Gresham Little League.  We're looking forward to a great 2012 Baseball & Softball season.  Let me encourage you to get involved.  Little League is run 100% by volunteers and there are many opportunities to lend a hand.  One way to get involved is through umpiring.  Umpiring is a lot of fun and there's no better place to watch a game than from right on the field!  If you would like to know more about umpiring, please send me an e-mail at chrisf@greshamlittleleague.com.  I will be glad to chat with you.

Thanks for supporting Gresham Little League and I'll see you out on the Diamond!

Below Are Some Great Umpire Resources:

Umpire's Manual
Here's your umpire's manual, full of great general umpire info.

Umpire's Reference Guide
Here's a document that explains most of the rules and situations that I think an umpire will run into on a Little League field.

Little League Rules Instruction Manual
Here's the 2011 Rules Instruction manual for you guys that want to take this ump thing to the next level.  This is the entire Little League Rules book with Instructor comments after nearly every rule.  Extremely helpful and informative!  This is based on the 2011 rules which are nearly identical to those of 2012.

Two Man Rotation
Two Man Rotation Powerpoint - page-by-page this one shows how to position yourself for various plays and situations.  I really recommend you check this out.

E-Rules Resources & Umpire Demonstration Videos
This link takes you to a great page with some handy Internet Rules References.  Check it out.  I especially like the Videos which show explanations for some commonly seen situations and rules, as well as live demonstrations on how an Umpire should call them.  Good stuff!  Click the link below:

Regarding Composite Bats . . .

January 18, 2012

Dear Little League Parents, Coaches, Umpires and Local League and District Volunteers:

As you take to the field this season, Little League International has assembled an online resource page dedicated to baseball bat information, which is available through the Little League website.

Click here to find the latest bat information, including the 2012 Little League Baseball rules and regulations governing bats, definition of terms, the moratorium on the use of composite bats, and a series of frequently asked questions, with answers.

If there is a bat-related issue that requires an explanation the answer is just a click away.

You are encouraged to you use this resource, and refer to it often to review the latest information.
